I'm new to SolidEdge but I have managed to get some animations to work, but still I have problems too.

What are your problem ?

can you export an stl file. solidedge will read this.

you can create an stl from a point cloud using meshlab, which is a free download

Topic : Quadro vs Geforce

The Quaddro cards are optimised for OpenGl operations where GForce is optimised for DirectX. normally you will find quaddro cards to have much less memory than gforce cards. thats because gforce cards are designed for gaming where the card needs to process huge texture maps. not needed for CAD. instead high throughput, in other words speed is important.

You wont only notice a speed inhancement with a Quaddro card. If you have a good high def display, The card will render crisper, cleaner displays

I believe Solid Edge has now been optimised to also use DirectX, but in the past most CAD systems were only opengl. Agforce card is opengl compatible but will rely more on your cpu to process results, slowing down the entire system.

Topic : Quadro vs Geforce

Hello.

As you can see i am new to this forum.

My main reson for signing up was to find out if any of you would know how the Geforce cards match

up against the Quadro's in solid edge.

Here is why i ask.

In my company all the drawing offices are using the quadro cards. they have the FX 3700's and the

FX 2000's

I on the other hand have the GeForce GTX560ti overclocked card but am not seeing the resaults I was

sure i would see im pretty sure that its the pc itself though cause i cannot see how this card would lag on

a simple model that my laptop didnt have trouble running.

PC specs. Intel Q6600 quad core. 4gb DDR2 800MHz, GTX560, 585w psu etc etc...

if anyone has any insite to why i would be lagging could you please let me know :) thanks.

Topic : what flavor of SE?

I am a Solidworks user thinking of making a switch. i do complex surfaces and machine parts.

I have attached a jpg of a current project. It is important that ruled surfaces be accurate.

I also need simple FEA for small parts.

What version of SE provides the capabilities of Solidworks Office?

Solid Edge ST3 for Designers introduces the reader to Solid Edge with Synchronous Technology. Solid Edge is one of the world's leading parametric solid modeling packages. With Synchronous Technology, Solid Edge redefines the rules for 3D modeling. It combines the speed and flexibility of modeling with precise control of dimension-driven design, thereby generating tremendous productivity gains over traditional methods. In this release of Solid Edge, the synchronous modeling and the traditional modeling environments are integrated into a single environment. In this textbook, the author emphasizes on the solid modeling and editing techniques that enhance the productivity and efficiency of the user. This textbook consists of 15 chapters structured in a pedagogical sequence, covering the Part, Assembly, Drafting and Sheet metal environments of Solid Edge ST3. Both Synchronous as well as ordered environments are used throughout the chapters.

There is no version 21. There is Solid Edge ST - with synchronous technology and you can do many unsuspected things with it.

Solid Edge v20:

1. You can change the lines generally from Format -> Style.

2. You can change the displaying of your drawing to “as printed” (and to see how it will look like when printed) from Tools->Options->View->Display as printed

The same things in  Solid Edge ST3:

1. View->Style

2. Application Button ->Solid Edge Options->View->Display as printed.

Just select the part and choose color from the drop-down menu in Ribbon Bar.

Topic : Colouring parts

Hi. I wanted to show my dad the weightlifting platform I'm about to build. I made all the parts and assembled them, but I figured it would look cooler if they had nice colours, black for the rubber and brown for the wood. The problem is that I have no idea how to colour parts. I searched this site, but only found something where they import .jpg files to colour them, think it might be SE 2D or something else I don't have.

I have SE V20. Can anyone explain me please how I can colour my parts?

Thanks in advance.

Joris

many time after taking printout of draft file, hidden lines does not look like same & because of that problem occoured.

Topic : Family of Assemblies, Alternate positions

I was wondering why I could not get the Alternate Assemblies "new" button to become active in my assembly? I am working on a hydraulic cylinder model and would like to have 2 positions for my final assembly, but my new member option under Alternate Assemblies is grayed out.

Thanks!

Topic : Read text into Solid Edge

I am in the process of using images to extract the coordinates of certain objects in the images and I would like to then create a solid model based on these coordinates. My question is this, Is there any way in Solid Edge to read in a text file (or something of that nature) that contains the (x,y) coordinates of the objects and then create a solid model or sketch from them?

Thanks in advance.

hi JDenhart , for making spiral in 2d enviornment, make spiral in 3d then go to file menu and use creat drawing option

then your 3d spiral will come in 2d, whatever view u want.

second method is go in 2d drawing make spiral, use split and trim option.

Topic : How to draw a Spiral in the 2D environment (to extrude from)

I use SolidEdge ST2 but with Traditional Modelling. I am trying to draw a part that serves as a cam.  The geometry I need isn't a CAM though (offset circles or ellipses).  Rather, it is a spiral (a shape where the radius changes smootly and consistently with the angle.)  I have done spiraling helixes before, but this is not a helix.  It is a flat part with a constant thickness.  What I am looking for is a way to draw the spiral in 2D and then extrude it.  I haven't been able to find away to do the 2D spiral. Any ideas?
